In 1997 the museum opened its library addition, one room of which is pictured at the left. The museum has a part time librarian who can be available by appointment to help researchers to use the library. The museum does not loan its library holdings. The library is open by appointment to museum members at the Black Helmet Brigade Level and above, as well as to scholars involved in research on the history of firefighting.

Major Holdings:

	Trade catalogues from dozens of fire equipment and apparatus builders.
	Rare treatises on the history and technology of firefighting in the United States and Great Britain.
	Popular and scholarly histories of firefighting.
	Picture books relating to all aspects of firefighting.
	Local fire department histories, many of them dating to the 19th and early 20th centuries.
	Technical manuals dealing with a wide range of fire science topics.
	Histories and catalogues of firemarks in the U.S. and Europe.
	National Fire Protection Association Quarterly Journals and related publications.
	Fire related magazines, such as Fire Engineering and FireHouse.
	Fire apparatus collector magazines, such as Enjine!Enjine and Fire Apparatus Journal.
	Fiction related to a wide variety of firefighting subjects.
