In 1997 the museum opened its library addition, one room of which is pictured at the left. There are three other archival storage rooms. The museum has a part time librarian who can be available by appointment to help researchers to use the library. The library is open to museum members at the Black Helmet Brigade Level and above, as well as to scholars involved in research on the history of firefighting.

bulletTrade catalogues from dozens of fire equipment and apparatus builders.
bulletRare treatises on the history and technology of firefighting in the United States and Great Britain.
bulletPopular and scholarly histories of firefighting.
bulletPicture books relating to all aspects of firefighting.
bulletLocal fire department histories, many of them dating to the 19th and early 20th centuries.
bulletTechnical manuals dealing with a wide range of fire science topics.
bulletHistories and catalogues of firemarks in the U.S. and Europe.
bulletNational Fire Protection Association Quarterly Journals and related publications.
bulletFire related magazines, such as Fire Engineering and FireHouse.
bulletFire apparatus collector magazines, such as Enjine!Enjine and Fire Apparatus Journal.
bulletFiction related to a wide variety of firefighting subjects.

The museum's part time librarian can be available by appointment to assist users of the library by appointment. The museum does not loan its library holdings.
