| The museum has over 130 wheeled pieces in the collection.
There are over 10,000 smaller objects, all of which relate to the history of firefighting.
The museum's library has over 6,000 holdings, including books, journals, magazines,
manuals, and trade catalogues. The library also contains over 50,000 graphics, most of
which are photographs. many of these graphics are lithographs, prints, engravings,
paintings, and other media. The collection of artifacts has been catalogued.
The museum does not loan
any of its library holdings, and the library is only available for use by the
staff. |
The museum adds to the collection and library by means of
donations and, on occasion, purchases. The museum also occasionally solicits the loan of
objects for temporary exhibits.
The museum employs a craftsman to stabilize, refurbish or
completely restore objects in the collection, depending upon their importance to the
collection. To date about 90 percent of the wheeled collection has been restored. All but a few
of the rest have been refurbished or stabilized.
