The Museum has an extensive collection of photographs of fire apparatus from all over the world.  We will be using this group of web pages as a kind of changing exhibit of a selection of the photos in the collection.  Many of these photos were taken by Hall of Flame volunteer Jim Pearson.  Jim is a former volunteer fire department chief from Connecticut who moved to the Phoenix area a few years ago.  One of his hobbies is fire apparatus photography.  These photos were taken by Jim over the past couple of years.  In addition to the great photographs, Jim also is careful to describe the rigs which he is recording.  We do not own any of the rigs displayed in this section, although we sure wish that we did!

1985 Pierce Arrow / Smeal  Quint Fire Engine. 100 foot rear mount aerial ladder.

1,500 gpm pump, 300 gallon tank.

Ladder 214, Mesa, Arizona FD

Originally assigned to Truck 5, it was rebuilt by Pierce in 1996 and a totally enclosed cab was added.  When the truck went to Pierce the aerial was dropped off at Smeal.  upon completion by Pierce the rebuilt ladder was replaced on the truck.  Upon return to Mesa it was assigned to Stattion 14 where it was operated as a quint.  It was designated Ladder 214.  With the addition of an engine to Station 14 this rig has now been redesignated Ladder 2214.  This identifies it as an adaptive response ladder company, meaning that it is often moved up to a busier station when that station's aerial is committed to a time consuming operation such as training or special operations.

Restored by the Tempe FD and used by the department as a parade rig.  Its original hall Scott gasoline engine was replaced by a diesel.

1990 Spartan Baron / LTI  tractor drawn aerial truck. 95 foot aerial ladder

Ladder 11, Phoenix, Arizona FD

This design proved to be unsatisfactory.  Four units were purchased.  All have been rebuilt with American La France tractors and compartments reconfigured to provide improved lines of sight from the tiller seat.
